A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday (2⁄6), quickly dumping large amounts of snow on roadways and caused hazardous driving conditions for travelers.

A record two and half feet, or more was predicted for Washington while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches.
Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hours through Saturday morning.

Officials urged people to stay at home for the weekend to keep out of the way of crews trying to battle the storm.

Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

EDIT: Much of the east of the United States is set to be paralysed by an "extremely dangerous" storm set to dump large amounts of snow, shutting down the capital. About 10in (25cm) of snow had fallen by 0100 (0600 GMT) in Washington, with forecasters predicting the heaviest snowfall to hit the area in 90 years. Museums closed, transport was widely disrupted, and residents were told to prepare for up to five days indoors. A rare 24-hour blizzard warning is in effect for the Washington-Baltimore area until 2200 (0300 GMT Sunday).

evo  vijest za snijeg u Alziru:

Heavy snow has brought difficult conditions to Constantine city, in eastern Algeria, where such extreme wintry weather is rare.

Citizens who stepped outside early on Friday morning were surprised to discover their city under five to six centimetres of powdery snow. The unusual phenomenon brought the obvious delight of residents of the old 'rock city', many of whom immediately began snowball fights.
